Procedure

Portrait Painting

ption one: The customer poses for painting. In doing so, client must be able to pose approximately three hours for each meeting in my workspace. A 26" x 36" (66 x 91,5 cm) figure painting usually takes 15 to 25 hours with a regular background. Client doesn't need to pose when I work with background.

Option Two: The painting is executed from a combination of posing and photographs. Meetings will be conducted at my studio.

Option Three: The painting is accomplished solely from photographs. The client submits the desired photograph to be painted. If the client doesn't have a suitable photo, then I can take pictures with professional lighting for them at my studio, free of charge. The client and myself can then work together to arrive at a best photograph to work with.

Landscape Painting of a Home

Architectural Landscape Painting: The progression of events leading to an architectural landscape painting

Option One: Executed from sketch, taken from life, and proceeded from photograph. Client may submit the best photograph of their homes or I arrange to take pictures (free of charge) of it. After getting sketch with proper perspective and photograph approved from the best angle, then I proceed to perform a painting from there.

Option Two: Executed from solely from photographs.

The Progression...

  1. First of all, preliminary photos of your home will be taken from all potential angles that might lend themselves to serving as the foundation for the painting. Usually a home has one angle that proves most appealing to its owners. Your input on "the perfect view" will help make this process more effective.
  2. Once the photos are back, I will review them; make recommendations. Pluses and minuses he sees each offers and ask for your input. The goal at each step of our process is to help me realized what you ultimately want to see.
  3. The Advantage of Taking Preliminary Pictures while Leaves is Off the Trees

The final photos that will be used for color reference and showing your gardens and trees at their most lush will naturally be taken when all plantings are at their best. However, often, great advantage can be had by taking preliminary pictures with leaves absent. Details that would be totally hidden and which might be very important to you can be noted and incorporated into the final composition.

  4. All things being equal, it is best to have time to take photos without leaves; consider the photos taken and discuss them with you. This yields a steady, logical and non-rushed approach that brings a great composition into being almost as naturally as rain finds its way to an ever waiting earth.
  5. Once your final angle has been chosen, I will then do some rough sketches for you to see how the composition actually translates from the photograph to a more artistic representation.
  6. Delivery: Finally, once your painting is completed it will be brought to you for approval. If there is anything that is "not quite right", I will make the necessary adjustments. Upon first viewing, it is not at all uncommon for you to see things that need to be slightly altered that I don’t; that is part of the process. The important thing to keep in mind is that because we all went through the above-delineated process, those changes are going to be relatively minor ones that will be easily made. Regular Landscape Painting: This painting can be executed from many techniques and procedures, which usually comes out from whatever seems to be a wise decision from the view of both client and the artist.
